ISPs to be held accountable for SPAM?

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) is in the process of bringing in a legislative code of practice to make ISPs more responsible for SPAM emails.

Under the new code ISPs will have to:

  • Offer spam filtering options to subscribers
  • Provide a system of handling complaints
  • Impose reasonable limits on the rate at which subscribers can send email.

I don’t think these are unreasonable requests of an ISP, although there will have to be an increased allowance for people that work from home (or otherwise send a lot of email from home). I will be following this story with interest.

From the KisMAC site…

Stefan Esser discoverd a severe security issue in KisMACs parser for Cisco SSID Lists. Please install KisMAC version 73p as soon as possible. The problem is also solved in developer version 113.Unaffected are users, that use a version older than R54.

I will be downloading and compiling the latest release when I get a chance.

So where the bloody hell are you?

Australian Tourism is enjoying the benefits of “Bad Publicity” from their latest Marketing campaign. The Ad was first edited in the UK to remove the word “bloody” and it has now bee banned in Canada during the hours when children may be watching because of the word hell.

The UK has now approved the Ad for television, but Canada is holding out. I wonder how the reaction will be like in the US.

Windows XP now boots on Intel Mac

It’s almost old news now but the competition to get Windows XP to boot on Intel Macs is now over.  You can now install Windows XP on your Intel Macs. It looks like there are still a few things to do such as getting the Airport Extreme WiFi cards working on the Notebooks and some other dirvers need some work too, but it’s a good step in the right direction in getting a fully functioning Microsoft OS running on the Mac.

Check out http://onmac.net/ for more info and the boot loader.

Walking back to the office on busy Collins Street here in Melbourne I spot a strange sight…A secure document destruction bin, locked but with the key still in it… [Shakes Head]

DORK!

I would have looked a little funny dumpster-diving in my suit, not that I would have anyway, it’s ILLEGAL! ; )

UPDATE 15/03/2006 – I walked past the bin again this morning and the padlock and key were still there.  I must live in a city of saints…or it could just be the massive police presence due to the Commonwealth Games.

Melbourne in Lockdown?

I am not sure if our officials are getting so desparate in their search for ‘WMDs’ or if Melbourne is in lockdown status because of the Commonwealth Games but it seemed that it required the attendance of three police cars at a bee hive on Exhibition street this morning about 11:30am.

It’s just a pity I didn’t have a decent camera with me. The were some funny scenes that would have made for some great pictures.

KisMACAfter a massive couple of weeks setting up and running an ethical hacking course for the firm, I have managed to find some time to grab the new release of KisMAC. I have compiled KisMAC release 90 from source and made it available for download. Big up to mick the creator of KisMAC.
